The 1st stage of Graveyard Development

Outline

Daejeon National Cemetery was developed in the wake of limited capacity of Seoul National Cemetery. Construction started on April 1st in 1979 and it was completed on November 13th 1985. Only Graveyard development at that time was sized with 380,982m2.

  • 1979. 04. 01 : construction started
  • 1982. 08. 27 : first burial at Graveyard for servicemembers
  • 1985. 02. 28 : first burial at Graveyard for Officers
  • 1985. 11. 13 : constructions of Daejeon National cemetery completed

The 2nd Stage of Graveyard Development

Outline

the 1st stage of development, this National Cemetery faced growing demand of grave areas following the increasing number of aged veterans death. It is very natural that the next development plan should be initiated and set out for future-based graveyard expansion coupled with natural beauty and environmental protection.

  • 2001. 07. 20 : the 3rd Graveyard for Patriots
  • 2003. 05. 14 : the 2nd Graveyard for Generals and Admirals and the 4th Graveyard for Patriots
  • 2004. 09. 21 : Graveyard for Heads of State
  • 2005. 11. 30 : the 3rd Graveyard for Servicemembers
  • 2008. 12. 22 : Extra Graveyard developed
